Submerged arc welding can be simply defined as a commonly-employed arc welding process, in which the joining of two different metals is provided by heating with an arc usually between a bare metal electrode and the piece you're working on.

The very first patent on the process of submerged arc welding is known to be taken out in 1935. Typically, the process is performed as a fully-mechanized or automatic process, but it can also be operated as semi-automatic if wanted.
